​ARMY COMPOSITION

Army Composition- The way a country organizes their millitary.

All Armies

Platoon- A platoon has 50 men in it. It consist of 5 squads.It is commanded by lieutenant.
Company- is commanded by caiptain. There are 2-3 platoons in a company. It usually has 100 soldiers.
Regiment-is commanded by a colonel. Made up of 1000 men.Most important unit.

Union

Brigade
-Made up of 4 to 5 regiments in one. Most common group commanded in battle.
Division- Commanded by Major or Brigadier General
Corps-The biggest section of the army. A corps is commanded by a major general. The Union at Gettysburg for example, had seven infantry corps, and a cavalry corps. A corps is made of three divisions.

Confederacy

Brigade-6,600 soldiers. A Brigade is constructed of 4-6 Regiments
Division-Commanded by Major or Brigadier General. 33,000 soldiers. Made of 4-5 brigades.
Corps-Commanded by Major General. Made of 99,000 soldiers. Contains 3 divisions.
